Kata Beach
Family-friendly beach.
Kata Beach is just south of Karon Beach, featuring the same lovely sand and water quality. The towns behind the two beaches are fused together, appearing as one city; however, the beaches is separated by a wide isthmus.
As Karon, Kata is suitable for a family vacation or for travellers who want to have some distance to the "hectic" life in Patong. Nonetheless, it is only a short tuk-tuk drive away from Patong, should you want to go shopping or enjoy the nightlife there.
The beach at Kata Beach is wide and slopes only slightly into the water, making it perfect for small children.
Kata Beach is also suitable for snorkelling, since in both ends of the nearly 1.5 km (0.9 miles) long beach is a reef with lots of colourful fish. Also, at Kata Beach, you will find the same wide range of tourist offers as at Karon Beach, such as parasailing, banana boats and the infamous jet-ski (stay away from them!).
If you have children to entertain, you may want to visit Dino Park to have a go at their 18 holes mini golf course. Dino Park is on the isthmus between Karon Beach and Kata Beach.
The Hotel offerings in Kata are many. In the high end, you find Kata Sea View Villas, Malisa Villa Suites Hotel and Novotel Phuket Kata Avista Resort and Spa. Of course, there are also many hotels at more reasonable prices.
