Layan Bay
In Layan Bay, you will find a beach for dipping your toes not to take a dip.
Normally, I would not have written about this beach, as it is not suitable for swimming; besides it does not even have a name. The beach lies in a small bay that does not appear to have a name either; I will call it Layan Bay.
However, if you search on Google for Layan Beach, this beach will show up in some of the search results, which is why I decided to write about it. Read about the real Layan Beach in the Layan Beach article.
You will find Layan Bay and its beach situated north of Layan Beach, separated from Layan Beach by a small river. Slightly off the coast, Kala Island lies; the island and the sides of the bay protect the beach from waves. The waves also have a hard time due to the very shallow water in the bay.
If you visit the beach with small children, they may think Layan Bay is perfectly fine with its shallow water and no waves to speak of. However, if you plan to take a dip yourself, you are better off at another beach. Here, the water is too shallow for you to take a swim. Actually, you can wade all the way to Kala Island even at high tide; at low tide, the island is not an island but a peninsula as there is no water in the bay.
If you bring kids to the beach, please be aware of the current near the river mouth.
Usually, you can have the beach in Layan Bay all to yourself, although you may find occasional local residents who are having a picnic in the shade of the trees behind the beach.
If you meet other people at the beach, it will probably be guests at Anantara Phuket Layan Resort, who got tired of the pools at the hotel. The 5-star and somewhat expensive Anantara Layan Phuket Resort is located next to Layan Bay, offering their guests a beautiful view over the bay and Kala Island.
