Surin Beach
One of the best beaches in Phuket.
Surin Beach is one of the best beaches in Phuket, at least regarding the quality of the sand and the water. However, if you want a beach you can have all to yourself; or a beach with eye candy in the form of rocks, trees and bushes; Surin Beach is not for you, although there are some scattered trees behind the beach.
Instead, Surin Beach offers you the benefits of civilisation in the form of restaurants and many small stalls with fruits and refreshments behind the beach.
Behind the parking lot at the beach, you will Wat Surin; the only tourist attraction in Surin besides the beach.
The beach slopes steeply into the sea at high tide, making it unsuitable for small children. It is more suitable at low tide when the water slopes gently into the sea. While the children may not be able to enjoy the water at all times, they surely will enjoy feeding an elephant, if the elephant keeper comes by, offering expensive bananas to feed his elephant. Keep your camera ready, as the bananas will disappear very quickly.
Surin is also known as the millionaire's row; here you will find some extremely expensive houses with a sea view. If you want to rent one of those houses, expect to pay around 1 million baht (1000000 baht) per week in high season.
If that is a bit above your budget, you can find cheaper, although still luxurious, accommodation at some five-star resorts along the almost one kilometre (0.6 miles) long beach, like at Twinpalms Phuket Hotel. If you care more about the content of your wallet than of luxurious surroundings, as this writer do, you will also find some hotels with fewer stars and much lower prices in Surin.
