Banana Beach
A hidden wonder, down a steep slope.
You must be attentive to find Banana Beach. It is well hidden and not visible from the road. There are only two things to help you find the beach; a small sign and motorcycles and cars parked at the side of the road, unless you are the first to arrive at the beach.
Note: The last time I was at Banana Beach, the small sign was missing; thus, you may only have the parked cars and the scooters to help you find the beach.
To get down to this hidden gem of a beach, you must follow a nature trail down a steep slope. Alternatively, you need to arrive by sea, for example in a long tail boat.
Banana Beach is a very beautiful beach. At both ends of the beach, there are rocks; and in the middle of the beach, there is a small dollop of rocks too. On the landside, trees and shrubs surround the entire beach, which shields it from the rest of the world.
The beach is only about 200 meters (650 feet) long; you will rarely find more than a few people here. The sand and the water quality are fine; in addition, snorkelling is possible near the rocks at both ends of the beach.
At one end of the beach, easily hidden under the shade of trees, you will find a restaurant where they serve food and drinks. You can rent mattresses and parasols at Banana Beach. At this beach, the 10-percent rule is not enforced.
There are no hotels at or even near Banana Beach. The closest hotel is the five-star Andaman White Beach Resort, located at Nai Thorn Beach, and the five-star – and extremely expensive – Trisara Phuket Villas & Residences, located at Trisara Beach. If you are looking for a more affordable hotel, you will have to go even further away.
