It is not a problem to bring common medications to Thailand. However, if you use strong painkillers, drugs containing narcotics, or drugs that affect the central nervous system, you will probably need an import permit from the Thai Food and Drug Administration. Typically, drugs of this type are marked with a red warning triangle on the package.

The Thai Food and Drug Administration have created a website where you can look up various medicines to see whether an import permit is required. You can enter the generic name of the medicine, for example, "Metformin" or "Morphine," and a dropdown menu will display possible medicines. Select the one that best matches your medication from the menu, or simply choose the generic name from the list.

The results page will tell you whether you can carry the medicine with you without further action, or if you need an import permit, and what steps you need to take to obtain a permit. For example, here is the result for "Morphine":

Of course, you can also buy your medications in Thailand. The prescription rules are not as strict in Thailand as in many other countries. Even if you are required to have a prescription to buy your medications in your country, you may be able to buy it over the counter in Thailand. You can read more about that in the Buying Medications in Thailand article.
